Heat Heat is the transfer of energy. It comes in three different forms such as, conduction, convection, and radiation. Conduction is when you touch and transfer energy from touch. Convection is heat rising and moving in a circle: heat rises, then cools and comes back down. Radiation is any heat coming off traveling in waves and most of the time come from the sun.

ConductionConduction is one type of heat transfer when heat is traveling by touch. This boy's ice cream melting is one example of conduction because his hand is heating the cold ice-cream to make it melt.

ConvectionAnother way heat transfers is through convection. This occurs when hot air rises, or is pushed up by the cold air being pulled closer to the earth by gravity. This picture is showing convection by the hot air in the hot air balloon rising.

RadiationThe last type of heat trasnfer is called Radiation. Radiation is the heat transfer through space in waves. A plane flying very high is an example of radiation because the suns rays are much closer to the plane than on earth.
